For

Professionals

Centurion Chartered Financial Planners offers a truly independent, transparent & diverse range of financial planning solutions, delivered by passionate, highly qualified specialists, who work as one team across the southwest of England and in Wales.

As a general practice, comprised of specialists, we are able to fully support individuals and professionals with independent financial advice that puts our clients’ best interests first, at all times.

Centurion is often approached by lawyers and accountants who are seeking advice, either directly in a professional capacity or because a client has requested them to identify an appropriate source. We increasingly need to source good quality legal and tax advice in order to complement our own service to clients.

We think it is impossible for a single Financial Adviser to be a General Practitioner at a high enough level, but if you get the right team together, a firm can certainly be one.

Most of our team have focused on achieving exceptionally high-level technical qualifications and on gaining particular knowledge and experience in fields which not many Financial Advisers have. This enables several of us to offer several truly specialist services to professionals, which not many financial advice firms can.

We are members of the Court of Protection Practitioners Association and several of our Directors and Advisers are qualified Trust & Estate Practitioners, or are fully accredited Members of The Society of Later Life Advisers, Resolution and/or the Expert Witness Institute

We fully understand fiduciary responsibilities in relation to financial planning and investment matters, we act for a number of Professional Deputies & Attorneys who are themselves acting on behalf of clients who are in later life or have suffered serious personal injury, and for we are very experienced in providing Independent Investment Advice to all forms of trust, including charities.

We have an acute understanding of SRA, ICAEW and ACCA Rules and we are very experienced in setting up and running formal Joint Ventures which enable us to offer fully compliant referral processes and fully compliant fee sharing arrangements if required.

Our independence

It is our key aim to remain independent – unrestricted and able to hold investment managers to account on performance and fees - which helps our clients achieve the best possible outcomes for their financial needs.

We want to change the way financial advice is provided. We are fiercely independent and offer unrestricted advice. Our first duty is to our client. We don’t manage investments, which means we are in the uncommon position of holding investment managers to account on behalf of our clients. This also enables us to keep our fees low and fair. We are fully transparent on all charges.

We aim to provide cost effective, suitable and diversified investment strategies regardless of the amount of capital a client has to invest. Collectively we influence the investment of well over £400 million worth of clients’ capital and we use our purchasing power to obtain very favourable charges from some of the biggest and best-known investment managers in the UK.

Due diligence: How we fit the bill

We urge professionals to undertake due diligence when using or referring to a financial adviser. In 2022, Centurion became one of the first organisations to open our doors to RQ Ratings, an annual due diligence report for professionals to help them review and refer with confidence to independent financial planners. It contains information on our market-leading client track record, our qualifications, our governance, KPIs, value for money and more.

The latest RQ Ratings report can be accessed here.

We are proud to have been given an overall independent RQ Rating of 4.9 out of 5 – the highest rating given to any independent financial planning firm to date. RQ Ratings states that this score ensures professionals ‘can very confidently refer’ clients to Centurion.

Collaboration

We are proud to be the ‘go-to’ independent financial advisory firm for national and local law firms across England and Wales. We’re also very experienced in operating formal Joint Venture Structures which enable accountants and lawyers to offer their own brand as an additional service to their clients. This is thanks to our collaborative approach, our trusted adviser status, our transparency, our independent status, our expertise and sustainable business practices.

We currently operate six formal joint ventures with law firms, and we also receive informal referrals from a number of others and from various accountancy practices. Around 85% of our new client matters are introduced to us through these sources.

We are proud of our clear succession plans within the business and the collaborative, supportive and diverse culture we have created that enables us to attract, retain and grow the largest number of highly qualified and accredited independent financial advisers in the UK. We regularly share our market insight amongst our network of law firms, gathered by our joint ventures (including client care and marketing) to further support our colleagues and clients.

Any professional working with us can be sure that our advice is delivered with the clients’ best interest in mind - at all times – and that we aim to support your professionals and teams as they grow. Contact us today to see how we can support your firm.

Special Needs

Our firm is specifically aligned to provide specialist, tailored services to meet the needs of all our clients.

How we do it

At Centurion, we start with you. Our independent status enables us to look at your specific needs, assed by our highly qualified and experienced financial advisors – all of whom are specialists in their field.

Our overall aim is to bring you peace of mind that your finances have been properly organised and will be continually overseen to give you the best possible chance of achieving your goals.

Financial planning is not a ‘one-off’ event, it is a continually evolving process, and most clients require their situation to be regularly reviewed to take account of realignments in their personal circumstances and objectives or regulation changes.

Generally, we adopt the continually revolving six-step process designed by the International Financial Planning Standards Board. It’s straightforward and allows for a plan to be revisited at any time.

  • Initial Meeting

Establish your goals in life over the short, medium and long term – and assign them an order of priority, recognising the need to strike a balance between sometimes conflicting aspirations.

  • Discovery

Gather data about your current circumstances and financial position and any foreseeable changes to either.

  • Analysis

Analyse that data and evaluate your current financial position – and establish how close you are to achieving your goals.

  • Recommendations

Create a plan – this is a route map of actions that we develop, and which is designed (as far as is feasible) to achieve your different goals. This will generally involve some degree of Cashflow Modelling and access to a specialist Investment Service.

  • Implementation

We then discuss this plan with you, make sure it meets your requirements, adapt it if required and put the agreed plan into action – working as required.

  • Investment Managment

On an ongoing basis, meeting with you to discuss matters at least yearly and adjusting the plan as required to make sure it stays on track.
