He worked in the benefits department of various local authorities for ten years, gaining firsthand experience of the impact benefits and welfare reform have on members of the public and on the organisations that work with them. As a freelance consultant he has worked with professional deputies, the employment and skills sector, social housing, charities and local authorities, providing expert training and consultancy on Universal Credit, the benefits system and financial assessments for care.
